Most of us need a laptop to work and use our favorite software, the problem is, most business laptops aren’t made with developers in mind. Based on my experience as a developer, I’ve come up with the Top 5 Best Business Laptops for developing code.

Arming yourself with the proper tools can be the difference between delivering at the rapid pace you expect and delivering at a snail’s pace. These are my top picks based on numerous hours spent developing code while abroad or just hunched over a cafe table working late into the night.

Buyers Guide: What to look for in Business Laptops Before Buying

Speed: In most cases, business clients will be satisfied with a laptop with a quad-core Core i5 CPU, like the Core i5-7200U or Core i5-7300U (vPro) with an integrated graphics processor. Nonetheless, for 3D Modeling, expert video modifying, or creating realistic models, you need a tower with an Apple Core i5 or Core i7 Quad-core CPU (with model numbers that end in HQ) and Nvidia Quadro graphics equipment.

Long battery life: During a long workday or on a cross-country flight, nobody wants to run out of juice. Try to find a laptop that lasts over 9 hours unless you’re purchasing a monster laptop. A business laptop may be available with different battery choices; always get the highest capacity battery.

Screen size: A screen without much text can be quite difficult to read, making it difficult to profit. Don’t use PCs with screens that are too low-resolution, such as 1366 x 768. Choosing one with a 1920 x 1080 resolution or higher is best.

Hard drive: When you want to have a truly fast PC, you shouldn’t use a mechanical hard drive. Instead, you should get a solid-state drive. Solid-state drives boot up, open projects, and carry out various tasks much faster than traditional hard drives.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (8th Gen)

lenovo thinkpad carbon x1

CPU: 10th Gen Intel Core i5/Core i7| GPU: Intel UHD| RAM: 8GB/16GB| Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB SSD| Display: 14-inch, 1080p or 4K| Size: 12.7 x 8.5 x 0.6 inches| Weight: 2.4 pounds

While Lenovo didn’t change the ThinkPad X1 Carbon much, it now sports Intel’s latest 10th generation processors. In addition to fast performance, you get a long battery life (on the 1080p model) and two stunning screens (one in 1080p and one in 4K).

Nevertheless, the X1 Carbon maintains those classic ThinkPad features: a durable design (with MIL-STD-810G strength), a powerful keyboard, and stealthy aesthetics. There’s no denying that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon would have been better had it kept its SD card reader, and top configurations can be expensive, but we are hard-pressed to think of a better business machine in general.

Pros Cons
vibrant 1080p and 4K display options Weak graphics
Fast performance

HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7

Hp elitebook

CPU: Intel Core i7-10810U| GPU: Intel UHD| RAM: 16GB| Storage: 512GB| Display: 14-inch, 1080p| Size: 12.6 x 8 x 0.7 inches| Weight: 2.9 pounds

The HP EliteBook x360 1040 G7 is an excellent business laptop. The x360 1040 G7 features a gorgeous chassis with a flexible hinge, allowing it to be converted from a laptop to a tablet.

There are not many notebooks that seem to have no downside. Besides that stylus chassis, you also get a vivid 14-inch display. But the excellent features of the EliteBook x360 1040 G7 don’t end there. Additionally, it is complete with an IR camera, a fingerprint sensor, as well as MIL-SPEC-810-rated durability. Though lacking graphical oomph, the 10th Gen Intel CPUs are powerful, and the battery lasts for more than 11 hours.

Due to these reasons, the HP EliteBook x360 1040 is the best business laptop.

Pros Cons
Good 1080p display Expensive
Fast CPU performance

Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1)

Apple macbook pro

CPU: Apple M1| GPU: Apple M1 (integrated)| RAM: 8GB/16GB| Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB| Display: 13.3-inch, 2560 x 1600-pixel| Size: 12 x 8.4 x 0.6 inches| Weight: 3 pounds

Apple computing has entered a new era. It was Apple’s M1 custom SoC that marked the first step in Apple’s conscious separation from Intel. The company has ever put that many transistors into a chip, which is the highest ever for a chip based on ARM. In addition to having eight cores and integrated graphics, the SoC includes Apple’s Neural Engine, an improved image signal processor, and Apple’s Secure Enclave. With the new laptop, you’re getting a powerful machine with much faster performance.

Our test of the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro showed a long battery life and the fastest performance on a Mac we have ever seen. In addition to Big Sur, Apple Silicon also provides blazing-fast webpages and a better webcam experience. In short, Apple’s new MacBook Pro does everything they said it would do.

Pros Cons
Excellent battery life Not enough ports
Great webcam Thick bezels

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (6th Gen)

Lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga

CPU: Intel Core i7-1165G7 CPU| GPU: Iris Xe| RAM: 16GB| Storage: 256GB; 512GB SSD| Display: 14-inch, 1920 x 1200-pixel IPS (16:10)| Size: 12.3 x 8.8 x 0.6 inches| Weight: 3 pounds

Despite the risk involved, Lenovo is reaping rewards with its ThinkPad X1 Yoga. Our favorite part about the ThinkPad X1 Yoga is its aluminum body, which is a nice change of pace from the matte-black carbon fiber found on most models.

In addition to its slim design, this convertible 2-in-1 comes with a bright 14-inch 16:10 display, a best-in-class keyboard, and a long battery life. Combining these features results in the best Lenovo laptop for those who want a convertible.

In addition, there is a built-in stylus port and webcam cover. If you intend to use a stylus, we recommend Yoga instead of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Pros Cons
Speedy performance Heavier than some competitors
Long battery life No SD card slot

Dell Latitude 9410 2-in-1

Dell 9410 business laptops

CPU: Intel Core i7-10610 (vPro)| GPU: Intel UHD| RAM: 16GB| Storage: 512GB| Display: 14-inch, 1080p| Size: 12.6 x 7.9 x 0.6 inches| Weight: 3 pounds

The Dell Latitude 9410 2-in-1 laptop is the right choice for people who care about battery life. Even with the screen brightness turned up, the 2-in-1 laptop easily lasted me through the day. However, its fast performance, sleek design, and some useful sign-in options aren’t the only reasons for considering the Latitude 9410 2-in-1.

By virtue of its proximity sensor, the Dell will recognize you as soon as you approach it. Adding this feature eliminates the need for passwords or an IR camera to log in. Dell’s Latitude 9410 2-in-1 is yet another incremental step forward for its notoriously uninspired business notebooks. In the next version, we hope that the webcam will be covered and the screen will be brighter.

Pros Cons

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dell or HP better?

You should choose Dell if you need an inexpensive but reliable laptop. The quality of their laptops is still excellent despite being cheaper. Dell’s Alienware laptops offer better gaming performance than HP’s. Choose HP laptops, however, if you need a healthy combination of power and price.

Is 10th gen i5 better than 8th gen i5?

These laptops display quicker boot times due to the faster clock speed of 10th generation CPUs. A laptop from the 10th generation is thus superior to an 8th generation laptop. Additionally, 10th-generation appliances offer much better graphics performance than 8th-generation devices.

Conclusion

It is very important to pick the right business laptops, and you should have found this review helpful in choosing one. Nevertheless, you should double-check all the necessary data before finalizing your purchase.
