A recent innovation from Canon was the introduction of its first ‘refillable’ inkjet printer, which uses affordable bottles of ink instead of expensive ink cartridges, to drastically cut the long-term cost of buying replacement inks. A more conventional printer, the Pixma TS6250 still uses cartridges.

Canon Pixma TS6250: Design and Features

To print color graphics and photos, the TS6250 uses four inks — cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (or CMYK). In addition, there is a pigment-based black ink reserved for the printing of high-quality text.

This device has many useful features, including a 1200x2400dpi scanner and copier, and automatic two-sided (duplex) printing. Among the connectivity options are both USB and WiFi connectivity, as well as AirPrint and Mopria for iOS and Android.

It features two paper trays, with the front tray holding 100 sheets of A4 paper and the rear tray specifically for glossy photo paper and envelopes. There is even a special sticker and magnetic paper that you can use to attach your designs to refrigerator doors and other surfaces.

The minimal design fits easily onto a shelf or desk even in smaller rooms, thanks to its compact size of 139mm high, 372mm wide, and 315mm deep. Both black and white models are available. However, the white model is referred to as the TS6251.

Canon Pixma TS6250: Print Performance

According to Canon, mono text documents can be printed at speeds of up to 15 pages per minute. Tests with various Word and PDF documents found this device to print documents at 14ppm, a speed that is still more than sufficient for most home users, and will allow you to print longer documents easily, such as school reports.

In addition, the pigmented ink produces crisp, smooth text characters that can rival those produced by more expensive laser printers.

For documents with text and graphics, we got 7.5ppm, not the 10ppm Canon quoted, but that’s perfectly enough for day-to-day use at home.

It takes about 30 seconds to print a 4×6 inches photo postcard with very bright, bold colors and good contrast.
